Green tick verification

Also called: Official Business Account · OBA · blue tick on WhatsApp · verified badge

The badge WhatsApp shows beside a business name to mark it as an Official Business Account. Businesses still call it the green tick; Meta now renders it as a blue checkmark.

It is granted by Meta, not applied for and not sold. Meta decides on a set of factors, of which the one nobody can manufacture is whether the brand is notable — which is why agencies offering to obtain it are selling a decision they do not make.

There are eligibility conditions you can meet, and they are worth meeting on their own merits: comply with the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy, be registered on the platform for at least 30 days, enable two-step verification on the business phone number, and have the number’s display name approved. Meeting all four makes a business eligible. It does not make the badge arrive.

The badge is not required to use the platform. A business without it sends the same messages, in the same templates, at the same rates. What it changes is recognition in the chat list, which matters most to consumer brands whose customers might otherwise doubt the sender is genuine.

“A business can’t request or pay to turn a “Business account” into an “Official business account”.”

What people get wrong

Treating the badge as a purchase or a paperwork exercise. Meta states plainly that a business cannot request or pay to turn a business account into an Official Business Account — any vendor quoting a price for it is charging for something they cannot deliver.

Checked against Meta’s published documentation on 15 August 2026.
